Non-ITO transparent conductor vies for foldable display market

Clevios_Conductive_Polymers

It is a hybrid material, of silver nanowires (to raise conductivity) and conductive PEDOT polymers.

“In tests, films coated with Clevios HY E have been folded more than 300,000 times with a bending radius of 1mm with no impairment of their conductivity,” said the firm.
This was based on a 25μm PET substrate, coated with 150nm of Clevios HY E, then topped with 700nm of Clevios OC 1 for some reason that the company doesn’t seem to disclose anywhere – it is another PEDOT-based conductive polymer.

HY E can be wet coated or printed onto plastics including PET and polycarbonate, and laser patterned. Resistance is 30-150Ω/sq.

“Even during implementation, we can provide support to display manufacturers as they implement individual adaptations of the material and develop processes for series production,” said company head of technical services Dr Armin Sautter.

Working with a Taiwanese touch panel maker, Heraeus produced an 8in folded touchscreen prototype in its test laboratory in Taiwan. “This prototype demonstrates how robust our materials are,” said Sautter. “Now we are looking for technological partnerships to implement additional applications.”
